Hi there :)

My name is Craig. Plant Conversations is a place for me to centre my learnings around plants.

A special interest of mine are Indigenous plants – plants that of a particular place.

Why plants?

If you spend time with plants then you probably recognise that connecting with and caring for plants feels good.

At an individual level, caring for plants is enjoyable. On a collective level, caring for plants can support the wellbeing of whole ecosystems, and can support the wellbeing of human communities too.

When we care for plants together we often feel happier and more connected, and our local ecologies and environments are healthier and more abundant.

Plants are also an important ‘way in’ to understanding the complexity and beauty of the ‘multi-species’ life around us that we are also a part of. Plants show us that we are not alone.

Why conversation?

Dialogue with ourselves and with others opens up a space where connection, experiential learning and growth can take place.

Conversations together, person-to-person, out from behind a screen, in a particular place, generate knowledge that is in-the-moment, local, attuned and attentive to changes in ourselves and the world around us.

Conversations around plants can offer us opportunities to re-think our human ways. How can doing things in plant-like ways open new possibilities for relating and creating? What if I approach the problem I’m experiencing as a plant might?

Plant Conversations

Not only for conversation about plants, Plant Conversations seeks to plant the seeds of further conversation — to literally plant conversations.

The projects and activities of Plant Conversations all hope to offer connection in times of social isolation and centre care in times of biodiversity loss and ecological fragmentation – and these are things worth talking about and sharing.

I hope you enjoy :)

A model of community-led care for Indigenous habitat restoration

Seeds of Change mentorship with the Public Value Studio and Merri-bek Council

During the first 6 months of 2024, I will be talking with individuals, community groups and organisations working with Indigenous plants and habitat restoration across Merri-bek to discuss models for community-led long-term ongoing care of these spaces.

The documentation of this process – interviews, recordings, photos, diagrams, drawings – will inform how future community-led spaces can take shape and will be compiled into a free resource for other community groups and organisations.

**Updates coming soon – get in touch for more info :)
